Bristol ChemLabS is part of the School of Chemistry at the University of Bristol and is the UK’s only Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) in practical chemistry. It was established on 1 April 2005 following an award from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) with significant further investment from the University of Bristol.

The ChemLabS teaching laboratories are state-of-the-art, professional standard facilities dedicated to the teaching and learning of chemistry’s core practical elements. They are amongst the very best of their type anywhere. The practical work is supported by highly innovative educational software delivered through the interactive, web-based Dynamic Laboratory Manual (DLM).

As part of an extensive Outreach programme, Bristol ChemLabS works with around 30,000 students and teachers per year in a wide range of activities covering lecture demonstrations, practical workshops, conferences, competitions and teacher training. These activities take place in schools and also in the Bristol ChemLabS laboratories located in the School of Chemistry.
