Bristol ChemLabS is a Centre for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) which began on 01 April 2005 after HEFCE awarded the School of Chemistry at University of Bristol £4.5m in January that year to establish it. Bristol ChemLabS stands for ‘Bristol Chemical Laboratory Sciences’.
Bristol ChemLabS’ ethos is that chemistry is an exciting, evolving core science, central to the quality of modern life. Its health is dependent on a vibrant scientific education sector able to project and develop the subject. Chemistry education at Bristol is excellent, dynamic and popular with students at pre-university, access, undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD levels.
The programme builds on this context in having state-of-the-art, professional standard facilities for the teaching and learning of chemistry’s core practical elements. Moreover, it seeks not only to transform the student experience of practical chemistry at Bristol but also to set new standards generally and to create a major national resource for laboratory-based teaching and learning of practical experimental science. Central to this ambition has been the development of the innovative web-based, online Dynamic Laboratory Manual with inbuilt pre- and in-laboratory e-assessment.
The Bristol ChemLabS website provides comprehensive details of all past and present (and some future) Bristol ChemLabS activities and news, including outreach and publications, along with contact details for all ChemLabS staff.
