SETsquared helps early-stage, high-tech, high-growth potential ventures get on the road to success. They provide serviced office space, business guidance and mentoring as well as access to a high-calibre network of experienced entrepreneurs, potential investors and business professionals. All of this is provided for around £100 a month for up to 12 months.
A partnership between the universities of Bath, Bristol, Southampton and Surrey, SETsquared is the largest government-funded, privately-backed support programme of its kind in the UK. Since being set up in 2002 they have supported more than 100 ventures. Much of this success comes from the unique way they bring together the research strengths of the universities and private sector commercial expertise.
SETsquared’s Bath centre is based at the Innovation Centre at Carpenter House in the city centre. It is shares the building with an incubator geared towards technology-based ventures which are at the next stage of their commercial development after SETsquared. SETsquared’s Bristol centre is in the city centre, close to the university’s faculty of engineering, department of computer science and other leading university departments.
Research is at the heart of the University of Bristol’s mission and is the reason behind its international reputation. In the latest independent Research Assessment Exercise (2001), 78 per cent of Bristol’s departments were judged to be world-class or internationally excellent.
Those joining the centre will work alongside ventures of the co-located university incubator. These include many exciting ventures that are at the next stage of commercial development beyond SETsquared and present a real opportunity to source partners for joint ventures or other collaborative projects.
